Can a plasma tv be ruined by being transported face up or down?

I was told by a sales person that I could not take a plasma TV home safely by either lying it on the back of the package or on the front of the package. He said that we “could,” but it would shift the gases turning the screen green and at the same time void the warranty. I think it was because the man was lazy and it was about to be the end of his shift. Is there validity to his statement?

It is true. not only does it shift the gases, it also applies all the TV’s weight on the glass panel, causing it to *****.

Correct. Not as much of a problem with LCD panels, but with plasmas, whenever on it’s side, it does shift the gasses and could cause issues with color distortion. The biggest reason you should not do it is because plasma screens have a pane of glass on top of the screen. When you do this, it shifts all the weight at the glass (weakest part of the set) and could lead to it cracking. Don’t do it!
